The enzyme is involved in the proteolytic processing of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and of receptor PAR-2. It cleaves and activates the human coronavirus 229E (HCoV-229E) spike glycoprotein which facilitates virus-cell membrane fusions. =
